World Maths Day 2022
Investigating Lengths of Body Parts
In the upper school, we investigated the lengths of certain body parts to see if we could find any relationships between these measurements.
It helped us to practise measuring in centimetres and metres and recording using decimals. We learnt about measuring the circumference around certain body parts. We compared the measurements and looked to see if there were any ratios between body parts.
We made some interesting discoveries:
-
Our arm span is the same or nearly the same as our height!
-
Our forearm and upper arm are the same or nearly the same length
-
The length from our toe to our heel is about the same as the distance between our elbow and our wrist.
-
The circumference of your head is roughly twice the circumference of your neck !!
Investigating Coin Totals
In the lower school, we investigated the different possible totals of having 5 coins in a purse.
