Book Week

World Book Day Logo

Thursday 6th March is designated as World Book Day which is a global celebration of books and reading, observed in over 100 countries worldwide. This special day aims to inspire a love of reading in children and to encourage them to explore the wonderful world of books. It's a fantastic opportunity for children to discover new stories and characters, and to share their favourite books with friends.

As is tradition, to make the day even more special and memorable, we invite all children to dress up as their favourite book character. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to get creative and bring their beloved literary characters to life. Whether it's a daring adventure hero, a magical fairy, or a whimsical animal, we can't wait to see the amazing costumes. We do not expect people to spend lots of money on costumes. We love seeing homemade creations, and thanks to the NST for their costume swap which took place earlier this week.

If you or your child are finding it challenging to come up with a costume idea or if dress-up days are a bit overwhelming, don't worry! A simple and effective solution is to dress in comfortable, everyday clothes and add a few fun accessories. For instance, a plain t-shirt and jeans can be transformed with a DIY mask, a wizard's hat, or a cape made from a piece of fabric. Another option is to wear a brightly coloured outfit and carry a prop related to a favourite book. These easy alternatives still allow children to join in the fun without the stress of a full costume.

As part of the celebration, each child will also receive a World Book Day voucher. This voucher can be used to purchase a special World Book Day book or to get a discount on any book of their choice. It's a great way to encourage reading and to help children build their own personal libraries.
