At this time of year, colds caused by viruses are common, and they usually clear up themselves in a few days, and we often see symptoms such as a blocked up and runny nose, coughs, sore throat and fever. We’re also seeing an increase in flu among children, which can make them feel quite unwell and can be more serious – so the NHS recommends getting protected with a nasal flu vaccine.
Learning to spell helps a child to develop a strong connection between the letters and their sounds, and learning high-frequency 'sight words' (i.e. words that cannot easily be sounded out) will assist a child in both their reading and writing.
It was good to see so many of you at the consultation meetings last week. Staff really enjoyed meeting parents face to face or virtually to discuss your child's progress and wellbeing.
Tickets will be available to purchase from 3pm on Wednesday 23rd November on Parent mail.
The influence and support of a parent or carer can play a vital role during a child's personal and educational development, and writing is a great way for children to express their thoughts, creativity, and uniqueness.

Whole School Production ‘What a Knight!’
We are very excited to share that we are starting to rehearse for this year's production of ‘What a Knight’.
We have enjoyed the return of Fantastic Fridays to the Northmead curriculum. Last Friday there were over 20 different activities taking place in school. As I walked around it was great to see children enthusiastic and focused, trying out new activities while working alongside children from other classes and year groups. Activities included - building the greatest marble run in the school hall, Zumba dancing, decorating biscuits, Andrew Goldsworthy inspired autumn art work, still life sketching, jewellery making, drama, weaving turtles, pond dipping and many more. I am sure your children will have already told you about their activities.
Meetings with class teachers to discuss your child's progress are planned for Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November.
