    This week is World Book week, and we are taking the opportunity to turn the spotlight once more on reading. We are always looking for ways to support children to become engaged with reading and become lifelong readers. It was a pleasure visiting classrooms on Monday morning and sharing the children's delight in their stories to start book week. Year 3 – “The Misadventures of Frederick” by Ben Manley, Year 4 – “Bog Baby” by Jeanne Millward, Year 5 – “The True Story of the three little pigs” by Jon Scieszka and Year 6 – “Dinosaurs and all that rubbish” by Michael Foreman.

  • Living with COVID-19

    As you will be aware the government announced their plans for Living with COVID-19 this week.  The DFE have outlined the changes for schools, and we wanted to communicate these to you.  The changes will be effective from today, Thursday 24th February 2022. 

    Obviously, the changes are significant adjustments to the way that we have been operating in school, but please be advised that we are following government guidance and the local schools in our trust are also updating information for parents and carers.  We are sure that many of you will welcome these changes, and we hope that it will feel closer to normality for children and adults in our community.

  • Sports Cool Taster day

    On Tuesday 22nd February SportsCool (providers for sport and education in primary schools)  will deliver a taster day that will feature PE curriculum coaching, including handball and other classic sports.

  • Newsletter Issue 8

    We have enjoyed a positive time in school over the last couple of weeks with many opportunities for learning outside the classroom on school visits alongside activities held in school to develop and enhance the Children's learning.

    It has also been very positive and exciting to take part once more in local sporting fixtures with other schools. The children are also looking forward to taking part in the Primary Schools music festival at      G-Live nearer to Easter.

    Happy New Year to you all! I hope you were able to enjoy some time with friends and family over Christmas and your plans were not too disrupted by covid isolation. It has been good to welcome everyone back to what feels like a more settled and normal start to the term. We have been able to return to lower and upper school assemblies as well as children eating together in the dining hall and year groups being able to play together at break and lunch times. Day visits for year groups have been planned to enhance learning in History and Geography. Year 3 are going to RHS Wisley on Thursday where they will study the tropical climate zone and plants growth.

  • S4K Early Risers Club

    Sport4Kids are delighted to confirm that the S4K Early Risers Club will be returning to Northmead Junior School from Thursday 6th January 2022 ! Parents/Guardians will be able to let S4K coaches know each day whether they would like their son/daughter to receive a healthy and nutritious breakfast served by the S4K team. Each morning, cereal (non-sugary) and toast with spread (jam or marmite) will be available as part of the S4K Early Risers Club. There is no additional cost for this extra service.

    Phonics  - This year, the Department for Education has brought in some changes that will impact the teaching of phonics in school, as well as the phonic books and resources that will be needed to support it. The government, by ensuring high-quality phonics teaching, wants to improve literacy levels to:

    • Give all children a solid base upon which to build as they progress through their schooling
    • Help children to develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information

    Christmas Raffle

    Everyone should have received 2 books of raffle tickets home with their child. If for you any reason you haven’t, or you would like some more, please get in touch via our facebook page or email Northmead.nst@gmail.com

    The deadline for returns is Fri 10th Dec and the draw will take place on Mon 13th Dec. Please pop your envelope inside our NST post box at the end of the driveway.
